Joy FM Hosts Mega 2000s Y2K Party Jam On Friday, April 27

On Friday night, April 27, all roads lead to the Silver Star Towers for the maiden edition of the Joy FM Y2K Party.

Billed to be the biggest party this first quarter, the Y2K Party is the perfect event for hardworking Ghanaians to reward themselves for all the hard work so far.

Your Super Station, Joy FM acknowledges this hard work and wants you to celebrate it in the right atmosphere.

Ghana’s foremost English language broadcasting radio station has over the years, brought to its cherished listeners and Ghanaians, memorable parties and events and the Y2K Party won’t be different.

Unlike Keteke, which focuses on music from the 1970s and 1980s, and the 90s Jam, which celebrates music from the 1990s, the Y2K Party celebrates music released from 2000 to 2010.

The 2000s music scene was dominated by R&B and Hip-Hop. R&B and Hip-Hop accounted for almost every one of the top 20 Hot 100 hits from the 2000s.

On the global stage, for example, according to Billboard, Timberland’s collaboration with OneRepublic, ‘Apologize’ was one of the major hits in the 2000s. More rappers appeared in the charts than ever before talking of the likes of Kanye, Nelly, T.I., and OutKast.

Locally, artistes like Obrafour, Tinny, Kwaw Kese, 4x4, Castro, Mad Fish, VIP, Mzbel, Tic Tac released chart-topping hits. Some of these hits transcended the boarders of Ghana.

The 2000s was not only about music. That era also came with it a fashion trend often described as being a global mash-up, where trends saw the fusion of previous vintage styles, global and ethnic clothing as well as the fashions of numerous music-based subcultures.

Hip-hop fashion generally was the most popular among young people of both sexes, followed by the retro-inspired indie look later in the decade.

The Y2K fashion craze saw people wearing popular brands like Sean John, and Rocawear. Don’t forget about the crop tops too!
