The singer, born Dennis Nana Dwamena, says he has put in a lot of work to be relevant this year and while he yearns for more successes, ‘Artiste of the Year’ next year, is not his target now.

As Ghanaians look forward to the 2018 edition of the Ghana Music Awards, the debate as to who wins the topmost award has begun in earnest.

Already, Tamale-based musician, Fancy Gadam and singer Ebony have all argued that they deserve the award next year because they have worked hard this year.

Kidi, who has taken the music industry by storm and thrilled Ghanaians with his smash hit song, ‘Odo’, says he is just not ready for the award yet.

The Lynxx Entertainment act told Naa Ashorkor in an interview on Showbiz A-Z that, “This year I’ve put in work but honestly I don’t think I’m ready for ‘Artiste of the Year’…I’m still working.”

Asked if he will accept the award should he get it, Kidi believes, “it will be a blessing that God has given me but deep down, sometimes you get some blessings…God has to prepare you for the blessing, if you are not ready and the blessing comes you will not know how to handle it.”

His label mate, Kuami Eugene, who has also thrilled Ghanaians with his ‘Angela’ songs, hold a contrary view.

Kuami Eugene, on the same show, noted that it will be fair to receive a nomination for ‘Artiste of the Year’ for his efforts this year.

“If I’m being nominated as ‘Artiste of the Year’, I think I’ve worked as much as possible to deserve that position and if it’s being given to me, I will just give glory to God. I think I’ve been working and every worker deserves his salary,” he said.

MzVee, who is also on the Lynxx Entertainment label, said both Kidi and Kuami Eugene deserve the ‘Artiste of the Year’ award. “Artiste of the Year is not scary at all so anything is possible in this life.”

Asked by Naa Ashorkor if she also deserves the ‘Artiste of the Year’ award, the singer said, “I deserve anything that comes because I’m working really hard.”
