Jamal, Yazmin, Maya and Rhianna, from Kuumba Youth Orchestra blew their orchestral instruments to the admiration of radio listeners from the Africa Centre on Thursday 26th Of October 2017.

Kuumba Youth Orchestra is a Community Interest Company established in 2009 and dedicated to helping young people aged between the ages of 5 to 18 years, by enhancing and achieving their potential through access to high quality and classical music education.

Singing numerous praises in the directions of the companies that are pulling and pushing all the financial and logistical strings that put Kuumba Youth Orchestra on a decent musical footing, one-half of Kuumba Youth Orchestra's directors Rosalind Bell said: “We have got some funding from the Arts Council and the Barbican also supports us, we are very fortunate in that respect to have people ready to help us”.

Playing one of their favourites, Karl Jenkins’s Palladio in an orchestrating mood was the golden and magical moment with Jamal, Yazmin, Maya and Rihianna showed their dexterity in handling the Violin, Viola and the Chello respectively.

By the time the quartet dropped ‘My Girl by The Temptations, the adrenalin of the studio charged and changed to a whole new level.

They have performed at the Houses of Commons and the Buff Awards.

For Jamal Hope, he has so many bows tagging his strings since the age of 5.

In 2009 he joined the Centre for Young Musicians where he became involved in the London Schools Symphony Orchestra and played in BBC School proms at the Royal Albert Hall; having an excellent classical foundation in experimenting with other genres of music such as Hip Hop, R&B and‘Bashment while studying at Brunel University.

In 2012, he won the grade 6-8 category at the Stratford and East London Music festival then went on to perform in venues such as Draper’s Hall as a 6th form music scholar.

Ranging from talent showcases and other corporate Balls and club nights, Jamal still bonds with his classical beginnings from time to time.

As part of Chineke Orchestra, he was recently featured in an‘HSBC’online advert and BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.

As a music leader for Kuumba Youth Orchestra since 2013, Jamal has been a prolific example of the good works that the Kuumba Youth Orchetra Compnay is doing.

They have such a colossal amount of history, brimming with talent and beauty at their individual and collective disposal to the extent that one needs to check on the Colourful Radio’s website for more information about them.
