OCT 17, 2017 LISTEN

Secretary of the Audio Visual Society of Ghana (ARSOG), Abeiku Sagoe says that the society has not received any court writ placing an injunction on its intended election.

A legal document sighted by Hitz News @1 reveals that two members of ARSOG, Emmanuel Owusu Sarpong and Dzifa Agbetepey have dragged ARSOG to court.

They have dragged ARSOG to court for operating with what it calls an “illegal constitution” thereby seeking a court injunction restraining ARSOG's Interim Board from proceeding with the election.

The Audio Visual Society of Ghana (ARSOG) was supposed to have conducted its first ever election in five years on October 6.

ARSOG, established to protect the rights of owners of audiovisual works in Ghana has not had a substantive Board since 2011 and has relied on an Interim Board to undertake its activities.

In an interview with Andy Dosty on Day Break Hitz on Hitz FM, Abeiku Sagoe, Secretary of ARSOG indicated that the reports of an injunction are rumors because none of the Board members has been served with a writ.

“We haven’t even sighted any writ...We're all dealing with rumors, things that have been put on [whatsapp] platforms,” he said.

Abeiku Sagoe further questioned the claim of the plaintiffs that the constitution of the association is ‘illegal’.

“We don't know exactly what the issues are. To say a constitution is illegal is to say the whole society is illegal,” Abeiku Sagoe pointed out.

He, however, mentioned that the said suit making rounds on social media suggesting that the leadership of the society has been summoned before court has been given to the society’s lawyer for examination.

Hitz News @ 1 gathers that ARSOG could not hold its planned October 6 elections because of the injunction.
