Phamous Philms and Digital Gate Productions To Launch 2018 Dance Queen Africa

Dance Queen Africa (DQA), a contest created solely for young ladies to explore the significance of different types of contemporary dance forms primarily for entertainment and creative purpose, returns with Season 2 in September 2017.

This was revealed by Mike Siaw, CEO of Digital Gate Production, the company producing the TV Show in partnership with Phamous Philms; at a training/orientation held at Aqua Safari in Ada, to refresh prospective production members about their roles in the new season.

At the end of the orientation, Dennis Antwi, Yvonne Otchere and Joshua Ansah were selected as the team responsible for the Training and Choreography of the DQA 2017/18 TV show. The Show will be directed by Phamous video director, Gyo Gyimah.

In August 2017, contestants will be drawn from four nationwide auditions. Twenty selected candidates are expected to go through intensive grooming and choreography by an in-house team led by dancer. Dennis Antwi, to create innovative fusions of contemporary dance types from such genres as highlife, hip-life, hip hop, ballet, flamenco, salsa, tap, dancehall, native African dances etc in a thirteen (13)-week serialized weekly TV show to air on Top TV on Saturdays; starting September 7, 2017 at 7:30pm.

16 Contestants will be chosen by week 10 to perform various dance tasks to test their skills for a judge panel and the public to view and vote for their best 10 to be presented at the grand finale on Live TV on January 27, 2018.

Recalling, Helen Dery won the first edition of Dance Queen Africa. Popularly known as Queen, she beat nine other contestants in an intense dance competition at the grand finale at the Trade fair, to be crowned the 'Ultimate Dance Diva' in Ghana. The ten finalists; Nana Adwoa Yeboah (Gadlene), Ohuni Nyanie (Pat), Agbolosoo Mensah (Becca), Perpetual Yankey (Nana Ama), Felicity Amoah Boateng, Muniratu Rahamani, Rita Kudjornu, Liana (Faamea), Helen Dery (Queen) and Yvonne went through three rounds of intense competition where they individually performed traditional dances in the first round and Dance Hall in the second round.

The winner of the new edition, walks away as the 'Ultimate Dance Diva', with a cash price of $6,000 and will also represent Ghana at the Africa finale in Nigeria in March 2018. She will also represent Ghana as Cultural and Dance Ambassador at international festivals around the world, in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

It will air on Top TV and two other channels to be announced later plus huge social media presence, especially on the event’s YouTube Channel.
