After so many years of trying to revive their music career, longest-running hiplife music group, Akatekyie, is back and better than ever. Armed with the support of C.E.O. of Las Vegas production, Safohen Kwasi Graham, popularly known as Kwasi Alhaji of Gomoa Fete, an estate developer/businessman who has vowed to help revive the hit maker’s music career, Akatekyie is here to bring you more of typical hiplife songs.

The group is bouncing back with a new mandate to revive the seemingly crippled hiplife genre. Hiplife music in Ghana was in the past few years dominated by popular names with the likes of Tinny, Obrafour, Castro, Okyeame Kwame and groups such as 4x4 and VIP now VVIP, Buk Bak among others.

Many groups and solo artistes emerged in this genre and all of sudden the music was liked by many Ghanaians and it has seen more airplay both on radio and television.

Hiplife was predominantly played at weddings and other ceremonies as many of the songs typically talk about love, relationships, marriage and challenges in life. Meanwhile, today seems an era where even giants in this music genre find it difficult to convince the masses to buy their products or show themselves off as hiplife artists to the International community and it is evident the music has lost its vibe.

"Shatta wale in his Bandana days wouldn't fight anyone for not recognizing him as a dancehall artist because back then he loved the hip life vibe but the story is different today. We have many artist in this country who came into limelight as hip life artist but today want to be seen or recognized as "Africa's hip pop or dancehall gods".. So how about saying you're the "Africa's hip life king or god"? he asked.

Nonetheless, Akatekyie, has announced the release of 'Baaba' within the week, a new single featuring Guru from their 7th studio album that is currently being worked on. According to Akatekyie, this particular album seeks to revamp hiplife music.

The album which they believe will revive the genre will be released in some few months. One of the group members, Pharaoh said the group's struggle in the industry was as a result of poor management and that has affected a lot of things in their career.

"Our fall was ad a result of poor management. We worked so hard but our management was very poor then to handle our brand and make our music business grow" he disclosed.

According to him, the group is back to rule the hiplife genre. "We are part of some few artists that made hiplife attractive. The identity of Ghana music which is gradually losing it's vibe. We just can’t sit and watch it die off" he stated.

The longest surviving group believes unity is strength and that has motivated and hold them together till date . The last time their songs made a huge impact in the industry was when they won award in 2000 with Odo esisi me. The group believe their coming album will make greater impacts than some of their previous ones. Kobby Culture said they had already sampled some of the songs at music shows where they have received positive response
