Chit Chat With Ghana’s Sensation and Sexy Dude, B Clay

On a cold evening at about 12:00am on October 9, a beautiful bouncing baby boy was born at Aunti Cici Hospital in the land of peace, Accra.

Fast forward to 2007 and we have the young sexy dude by name Sexy B Clay who has got his gem in the music industry.

He now makes his presence known in the music nation of U.S.A. Sexy B Clay provides lyrics smoother than Jet Li's Fearless.

With a combined passion fueling his drive for continued success, he is armed with more than just wordplay, but a humble sincerity that shines throughout.

Here's what went down when Ghana Music.com put the 'mic' in Sexy B Clay's hands…

Ghana Music.com: How did you come by the name B Clay?
B Clay: If am not mistaking, exactly three years ago on a Friday morning, Batman now Samini, Kokovelli, Obayefoor and Angel Cas called me to hang out with them in Nana King's House. You know, I lived my childhood life in D.C. On my entrance, I realized they had been giving names to each other so as soon as I showed up, Obayefoor changed my name from A.B to B. (Bacious) Clay and it's been that ever since.

Ghana Music.com: Can you tell us a bit about your background; early years and education?
B Clay: My parents, Mr. and Mrs. Annafi come from Nigeria and I have one young lovely sister and a big brother. I am an old student of both St Anthony's and the great G.S.T.S. I then furthered my education in South Africa by doing a two year University programme in Johannesburg University and Jah being so good, I won the U.S. lottery to continue my education and here I am in the States.

Ghana Music.com: Are you still in school?
B Clay: Of course 'cos' you know education doesn't have an end till you decide to end it. Am now reading Pilot Diagrams at Vaghns College in New York as well as working with Midwest Airlines as a Flight attendant.

Ghana Music.com: How was life growing up? Any ups and downs?
B Clay: Life in Africa we all know is no joke but man has to survive. Others have made it and so can I; that was my saying. For the ups and downs, time won't allow us so I'll spill it out later cos it's a whole journey. Forgive me for that.

Ghana Music.com: Can you remember some of your childhood friends and recollect some childhood memories?
B Clay: Batman (Samini) and Frank Debi were my closest childhood friends. Other stuffs between us…. (laughs).

Ghana Music.com: At what age did you move to the U.S.A?
B Clay: It's been three blessed years now. Thanks to Jah.

Ghana Music.com: You know what, you sure threw me for a curve! At first, I assumed that, because you are based in the U.S.A and look like an American, you were a Black American cat. Then your bio tells me you rep the motherland! How did this transatlantic connection come about?
B Clay: A lot of people from overseas thought I was from U.S.A because I am making power moves over there but hey as I said am 100% Ghanaian, D.C bred for that matter.

Ghana Music.com: How did your musical journey start?
B Clay: Right from birth on my birth bed. At the Aunti Cici Hospital, my mum told me two hours after I was born, I started clapping and making funny noises with my lips putting together a beat.

Ghana Music.com: Is this your debut album or you have other albums?
B Clay: This is my first solo album. I used to be in a group by name Mbrantee three years ago, which came out with 'Ghana Girls' in 2004 but hey you know…..

Ghana Music.com: What is the album title and how many tracks do you have on the album?
B Clay: 'African Babe' with 12 tracks and an intro and outro.

Ghana Music.com: Which producers blessed the album with their magic hands?
B Clay: Ajingo of Hush Hush Studios (Ghana) and Eugene of EKS Music (U.S.A). This album is on my record label BLACK SPEECH ENTERTAINMENT but I have promoters and advisors I'll like to really thank for their immense support; Dr. Jude Away Away, a big time comedian both in Africa and overseas and Moses Aluko.

Ghana Music.com: Is the album in stores now?
B Clay: Not yet but should be in stores between late February and early March.

Ghana Music.com: You seem to always be on the bill for most shows in the U.S.A? Why is that?
B Clay: My energy and dynamism on stage always see me through. And as they say, I bring African music to their doorstep and anytime I perform, they feel at home.

Ghana Music.com: Which performance will you describe as your best performance and why?
B Clay: None of my performance was a failure. Yo, listen; when I get on stage, I don't play rather I hit them hard bro.

Ghana Music.com: Talking about performances, you tend to always move the audience especially women into frantic ecstasy anytime you perform. Having their constant attention, do you find it difficult coping with this or do you enjoy being the sexy dude in the spotlight?
B Clay: In a nut shell, they have no choice than to scream for more when I grab the 'mic'. I love music so when am giving the chance to entertain and educate my fans, I do it extremely well 'cos' music is my food –I eat, drink and sleep music and I know without them am no one.

Ghana Music.com: How far so far?
B Clay: Am taking it to the mainstream.

Ghana Music.com: Your hobbies aside music?
B Clay: Well, hmmm (thinking aloud) I enjoy swimming.

Ghana Music.com: Is there a woman in your life?
B Clay: No, not yet.

Ghana Music.com: If you are asked to describe Sexy B Clay's personality, how would you describe it?
B Clay: Sexy B Clay is the sanguine type.
