The haunt for Miss Liberia (Ghana) beauty pageant, 2006-2007 kicked off today Saturday, at dawn in Buduburam Ghana, where eight candidates faced stage-eviction out of 22, in the first phase of the competition.

The 12 charming ladies made their way to the second and final round before a record crowd and a four-member panel of judges at Kobby Hotel, one of Ghana's four-star and plush hotel located in Buduburam.

The second and final phase of the beauty-contest is slated for December 22 at the same venue, would scale the 12 qualifiers to six in the quarterfinal.

Three contestants, from this round would then make it to the grand finale for deserving three outstanding ladies for the prestigious honor for an exile Liberian Queen, who will be adjudged by organizers and judges on December 22.

Mrs. Miata Gibson, chief organizer of the event said, the 22 girls in the kick off stage are between the ages 17 and 25, some are high school graduates and others are students.

She told The Vision the aim of the contest is to check the fluency, articulation and builds the self-confidence of the contestants so as to unearth other virtues within them.

According to the Media Relations Officer of the planning committee, Mr. Peterking Quaye, the 12 delegates represented the 12 residential zones of the Buduburam Refugee Settlement.

Interview conducted with few of the contestants shortly before the competition proved that they were all in high gear and anticipating to win.

At the plush standard star kobby Hotel, the judges were straight in their decisions, of three rounds grading basis of smile,modeling, speech, confidence and posture among others.

Prominent Liberian artists who graced the occasion were Suave-R&B and rap group, Smile, Breeze, De-Unseen, the latest Liberian Hip-Hop and Good Guys Dance performers and JP and the Royal Force, give the audience a chase for their 25,000 Cedis ticket fare.

Mr. Quaye has described the pageant as extra ordinary competition because, “The organizers will take care of the 12 finalists' attires with the help of Akosombo Textiles Limited (ATL) as one of the sponsors.

Quaye assured that the Liberian Community and Ghanaians that 'Miss Liberia (Ghana)' has two parts, the launch and the kick off, with the biggest of them he said is the December 22, Grand Finale. “We believe will produce a personality, and big Liberian, from among thecontestants to watch up for.” He predicts .

The program is being supported by the Liberian Embassy, Pepsi Cola, WISE, Jokers entertainment, TV3, TV Africa, The Vision newspaper and web site [www.thevisiononline.net] and Kobby Hotel.
