A new beauty pageant that is positioned to help funds to support the needy has been launched in Accra.

Miss Precious Ghana, as it is being called, is an initiative of Accra-based NGO Royal Diadem International, run by veteran actress Scholastica Hayford.

At the launch of the pageant in Accra last weekend, the organizers pledged to use the platform to enhance the lives of society's destitute, adding it is committed to pursuing the cause to the latter.

'We at Royal Diadem Int. Ghana are calling on everybody, be it philanthropists, individuals and corporate bodies to join and support a worthy cause,' Hayford said.

'We are not just encouraging you to provide the earlier mentioned two basic needs in life but we are looking at supporting the under privileged through the journey of life. This is because they are alone in life and so we are their family and it is also our responsibility as mankind to care for the needy and orphans in our society.'

'This is an educative pageant, which is geared towards unearthing an Ambassador, who with ideas will spearhead the dreams and aspirations of the above mentioned company by bringing a positive, sustainable change in the orphanages across the country and beyond.

'Each year the Ambassador will be assigned to a selected orphanage for life.

'As part of the Ambassador's project we intend to build infrastructures such as libraries, dormitories, computer labs, provide student beds, student mattresses in orphanages and also offer sponsorship to 50 orphans or street children who would be interested in the educative courses such as (filmmaking, modelling, fashion designing and hairdressing) offered at Ghallywood yearly.'

To be held on the theme Building a solid foundation for the needy, some 15 ladies will take part in the maiden edition.

Auditions will be held in September to select the final 15, who will go through to the finals.

'The ladies will be taken through a special grooming on how to explore their ideas to improve the livelihood of orphans and the needy,' the organisers say.

'By the end of 2013, we intend to have caused a great awakening nationally towards helping the needy.

'The winner and her runner-ups will receive cash prizes and other consolation prizes.

'There will be a special award for individual project, Poise and Attitude and Group project.'

'We accept the truism that orphans/needy ones must stand the chance to become prominent people in society, hence the need to create an avenue that will pave way for the beauty of an orphan or needy child both inner and outer and their dreams and aspirations, to come to bare and that is what Miss precious is about.'

Miss Precious Ghana is a Royal Diadem Int. event, in collaboration with Ghallywood Academy.
