A Beauty For Road Safety

Bishara Pelpuo Salifu, a 24 year old nursing student of Ghana Health Service was crowned Miss Road Safety 2012 last Friday at the National Theatre. Beside her crown she took home, she also received an official car Hyundai Verna for a year.

The first-runner up was Benedicta Asiome Mawuenyega, 21, a student of the University of Ghana, Legon and the second runner up was Regina Nana Ekua Asae, 25, a secretary.

The show started around 9 pm with all the 10 contestants coming onstage to deliver their messages on road safety. After performances from Herty Borngreat and Cedi and Naira the contestants came back on stage to display their talents.

Judges on the night, Ken Kuranchie, Editor for Daily Searchlight, Rudolf Berkeley, Deputy Director, Evaluation, Monitoring and Research at the National Road Safety Commission and Samuel Wiafe Siaw, General Secretary of Car Rental Association of Ghana wasted no time in selecting five of the 10 contestants after their talent show.

Soon it was question time from the judges. The remaining five were asked questions on road safety and based on how well they answered the questions, the judges scored Bishara Pelpuo Salifu the highest, making her the winner of the second edition of Miss Road Safety.

Organised by Functional Keys Limited and the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) Miss Bishara Pelpuo Salifu will champion the cause of road safety by stimulating road safety consciousness among the youth through the establishment and maintenance of road safety clubs in schools across the country, sensitization programmes as well as personal initiatives that will push road safety agenda in the country.

The Miss Road Safety Ghana project is aimed at whipping up youth activism on the subject of road safety using entertainment as a vehicle, as well as to concretize the role of women in road safety advocacy.

MCs for the night were Kweku Hayford and Nana Ama Frema.
