A very confident and eloquent 21 year old student of the University of Ghana, Legon, Keshia Ferguson, has been crowned the Miss Ecowas Ghana 2012 after meandering her way through series of eviction to the final stage of the competition to grab the 24-karat diamond –plated crown at the fifth Miss ECOWAS Ghana Peace Pageant, held at the National Theater on Friday.
Keshia Ferguson who is in her third year pursuing English and Theater Arts at the University of Ghana will represent Ghana at the Ecowas Peace Pageant International in Abuja, Nigeria with the first runner up, Emmanuella Nunoo, a third year student from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The newly reigning Miss Ecowas Ghana expressed much interest in the honor conferred on her and promised to lift the flag of Ghana high at the international stage.
“I am enthused to emerge the winner of the competition and I will work assiduously to ensure the promotion of peace across the nation since Ghana will go to the polls in December”
She continued,” as a Peace Ambassador, the onus lies on me to intensify the peace mother Ghana is enjoying because we have nowhere to seek refuge should war break in the country”.
The event which was beautifully and well organized by the 702 Productions Ltd saw fifteen contestants from various tertiary institutions in Ghana competed for the crown.
They are: Evelyn Duatey, Abena Otobea-Nkansah, Anita Akua Akufo, Sandra Baaba, Ida seidu, Alimatu Sadia musah, Berlinda Zormelo, Phylicia Asibu, and Ruthfirst Eva Analey Ayande
Others include Nana Adjoa Mensah, Mame Akua Sarfoa Frimpong, Yaa Boatemaa, Miriam Amui Love, Emmanuella Naa Besa Nunoo and Keshia ferguson.
The winner happily took home a brand new official car, a laptop, tigo tablet, a set of furniture, and a whooping GH¢3000.00
In a peace message taped by the 'Okyehene', Osagyefo Amotia Ofori Panin, on theme 'Peace and stability' urged Ghanaians to give peace a full chance to thrive on our soil without any impediments.
He said,” peace is not only the absence of violence but it involves justice, loyal and fairness to all”.
The Okyehene continued,” this country does not only need peace in December 7th, stressing, peace needs to be exercised before, during and after the General Elections, adding that children, business men and the aged need peace in their daily lives”.
This year's pageant, featured performances from artistes like, Amanzeba Nat Brew, Keche, Ofie Kodjoe and Gyedu Blay Ambolley.
