There is always this peculiar atmosphere of optimism surrounding these KUMKUMCHA BOYZ no matter how many times you meet them. With the emergence of the rap duo (TINTIN & REDKARD), I anticipate the birth of something different, somewhat beyond what we've all known to be the best of rap music in Ghana. Dr. Duncan, an iconic radio and entertainment presenter of X.fm was right in praising the young talented rappers. He had a wonderful time with TINTIN and REDKARD in X.fm studios recently. A part of the interview that stimulated me the most was the revelation of the background of TINTIN. There is this Akan proverb that explains my words unequivocally, the adage goes like this; “)koto nnwo anomaa” I hope most people are familiar with that or better still, it is literally translated as “a crab does not give birth to a bird”, TINTIN is a manifestation of that, someone will also say “it (music in its entirety) runs in the family”. The father of TINTIN needs no introduction to Ghanaians because his name has been a household name as far back as the late 90's. He is one the few producers who has help the Ghanaian music industry grow from strength to strength. He has won many awards when it comes to music production in Ghana. The executive producer of Obrafour, Ohemaa Mercy, Christiana Love, thus to mention a few is the person am talking about. Mr. Benjamin K. Mensah is the father of TINTIN; a lot of Ghanaians know him better as BIG BEN.
A twist in the story is that even though Big Ben has and still produces most of the bestselling artiste in Ghana, his third son TINTIN is not on his list. TINTIN made us understand that, he is actually under a record label named Frenz Music based in China and Ghana. He also said his father has not abandoned him as the rumors seek to portray, but he supports him in any capacity that is necessary and that he has his blessings. The fact is, my father has stopped producing hiplife music because of the invasion of piracy…and “I don't wanna live in my father's shadows, I want to make it as TINTIN not as BIG BEN's son” says TINTIN. He has promise BIG BEN his father that, he will soon be the number one rapper in Africa.
True to TINTIN's words, the rap duo have not won a music award yet but they are gradually making it big on the Ghanaian music scene. They recently had a mouth-watering performance at TV Africa's entertainment show sound splash. TINTIN and REDKARD have progressively won the hearts and minds of music enthusiasts in Ghana and beyond with their two singles KUMKUMCHA ft Atumpan and OBAA PAY. They recently did a mixtape on election 2012 (ATTA vrs NANA ADDO) and is also blast. It is really enjoying massive air play all over. Find time to listen to their tracks or watch their videos on youtube and you will not only join the doyens in heaping praises but will thank God for planting such talents in Ghana. You can listen to the election mixtape here.
