Lawyer: Tom Cruise and wife, Katie Holmes divorcing

A lot has changed since Tom Cruise made headlines for jumping up and down and declaring, I'm in love on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2005. Married for nearly six years, Cruise and Katie Holmes are calling it quits.

One of Hollywood's most talked-about couples has come to an end.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting a divorce after five years of marriage, Cruise's attorney tells CNN.

"Katie has filed for divorce," Cruise's attorney says in a statement. "Tom is very sad about it and is concentrating on the kids.”

An attorney for Holmes added in a separate statement, "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

People magazine, which broke the story, notes that the pair tied the knot in November 2006 after welcoming their only child together, daughter Suri, in April of that year.

Cruise and Holmes didn't shy away from the cameras, with footage of Holmes' sexy dance with her husband at a benefit in 2010 going viral.

Cruise, 49, was just gushing about his 33-year-old wife in an interview in Playboy's June issue.

"I'm a romantic," the "Rock of Ages" actor said. "I like doing things like creating romantic dinners, and she enjoys that. ... I'm just happy, and I have been since the moment I met her. What we have is very special."

This was Holmes' first marriage and No. 3 for Cruise. The actor was wed for 10 years to actress Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two children, and before that had said "I do" to actress Mimi Rogers.
