For her selfless humanitarian service since being crown Miss Universe 2011, Leila Lopes has been given the title Obaa Pa (Woman of Substance).
The title was conferred on her by the Miss Universe Ghana organizers, The Insignia Group, at a cocktail reception at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra Sunday.
Leila Lopes was spellbound during the coronation event that was organised for her by the Angolan Embassy and Ecobank Bank Ghana.
26-year-old Leila Lopes who has been on a tour of SOS Villages and Orphanages across West Africa was delighted at coronation and the colourful reception held in her honour.
The beauty queen said her commitment and dedication towards children and orphans in Africa will never wean.
She added that more efforts needs to be done to lift millions of Africans out of of poverty and also educate Africans about the dangers of HIV/AIDS.
Miss Lopes also singled out Ecobank, describing the outfit as very helpful and supporting her since she won the Miss Universe tiara.
The cocktail reception which was also co-organized by the Roberta Annan Consulting Group was graced by previous winners of the Miss Ghana Universe.
Miss Universe Ghana 2011, Yayra Nego who is also pursuing a similar humanitarian initiative locally, called on corporate Ghana to assist such humanitarian initiatives as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Ecobank responded swiftly to that call by donating Ghc10,000 to the SOS Village in Tema to offset some cost incurred in the management of the orphanage.
Organisers used the event to formally launch the 2012 edition of the Miss Universe Ghana pageant calling on aspiring beauty queens to take up the challenge and apply. Credit: myjoyonline.com
