The second edition of the KUMAWOOD AND AKOBEN MOVIE AWARDS has been pushed from December to the month t of November due to the upcoming general election which will be held on December 7th this year.
The media launch for the awards is said to be held in July ending at the SSNIT conference hall in Adum Kumasi in the Ashanti region. The nomination party will follow on the 29th September and then the main awards will be on 2nd November 2012.
Speaking to the founder of the awards Samuel Kwabena Darko on phone, he said alot have been put in this years organization since they wouldn't want to repeat some little mistakes they had in the maiden edition. He revealed that last year there were controversies over some members of the organizing team winning awards on the night and for that matter have decided not to nominate any member of the organizing team this year. "We are going to have a different organizing body or committee and make sure no one in the team submit his or her movie for nomination. we trying to avoid all controversies this year. Last year the committee did very well because we didn't have much negative reports from the public apart from the above mention one. There was no bias or what so ever and that is a clean sheet we want to keep and make it even better" he said.
He further disclosed that unlike last year, they have much time to seek for sponsorship for the awards and they are currently in talk with some corporate bodies who are willing to come and support the awards. "Last year there were no prizes because we didn't have sponsors but we are hoping to do that this year and that is one thing that will make this years award much better.
He explained they planned to have the festival on the first friday of December but since this years one falls on 7th December, the awards will be dubbed KUMAWOOD AND AKOBEN MOVIE AWARDS instead of the normal KUMAWOOD AND AKOBEN MOVIE AWARDS FESTIVAL. He said the festival will come back in the coming years edition.
Touching on publicity, he said it was very unfortunate they did organizing and everything for the maiden edition within just two month which was not enough but this year they have enough time at least to work with the media to give it the needed publicity that it needs. "There were so many things we couldn't do in organizing the awards in that two months we had for the organization, we even had to use someone's short code for the voting but this year we seeing to all that and also working on our own code. We are really working hard this year to make the awards very colorful. Samy said.
