Her parents wanted her to be a broadcast journalist which she did just to please them and after two years in broadcasting, Lydia Ashitey found a new career, hairstyling.

After eight years she is now a celebrity hairstylist lending a hand to the looks of Efya, Sherifa Gunu, Yvonne Nelson, Mzbel, Rana, Diamond Appiah, Martha Ankomah, Pascaline Edwards among others.

Lydia has, over the years added beauty make-up to hairstyling and has worked on movies like The Queen’s Pride, Heart of Men, The Dons of Sakawa, Trinity, Bed of Roses, Rain, and Single Six.

Asked how it all started, the young lady revealed that, at age 12 she realized her talent as a hairstylist but didn’t know how to go about it to make it a reality, moreso because her parents didn’t like the idea of it, made it difficult for her to grow her talent.

I was a beautician to a very close friend who was getting married. She was so happy with what I did that later she introduced me to other women.

The big break came to the Tema- based lady somewhere in 2007 when she had the opportunity to add make-up touches to the cast in a movie called Wedlock of the Gods. “When I came into contact with celebrities I had been seeing on television I just knew I had gotten there”, she told Showbiz .

After Wedlock of the Gods, she said she continued taking care of celebs like Martha Ankomah, Kalsoume Sinare, Diamond Appiah, Mzbel, Yvonne Nelson, Helen Asante and Efya.

Lydia now has her own shop, Leedy A Xpression in Tema. She says hairstyling pays a lot that is if you do well “I never knew hairstyling pays this much till I got into it, I would encourage any friend to go into it if they have the interest” she said.
