SANKOFA RADIO - U.S BASED GHANAIAN RADIO STATION AIRING THE LATEST BEATS

Emmanuel Osei Darko affectionately called DJ Ras is the brain behind SANKOFA MEDIA COMPANY, operators of SANKOFA TV, SANKOFA SOUNDZ and SANKOFA RADIO, the trail blazing Ghanaian online radio station which began transmission in 2008 in Virginia, United States. For most of his former classmates that know him by his high school nickname “Obarty”, it comes as no surprise that this former school prefect of Kumasi High School turned presenter continues to make moves in the radio industry.

He started djing events and had stints with RADIO CONTACTO, CONTINENTAL RADIO, and RADIO LINK, all on the campuses of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Kumasi Polytechnic in the Garden City, respectively while in secondary school. These on-the-job training experiences were in addition to understudying popular presenters like JOE AMEE then of OTEC FM (Kumasi) , Big Shaq now of BOSS FM, Shaq 'B' now of ZURIA FM , and Frankie Taylor (FOX FM) among others.

After his secondary school, he relocated to the United States in 2001 where he trained and worked for Virginia State University's campus radio station WVST 91.3 FM while pursuing his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Within the same period, he was the host of a community affairs program on AM 820, a local Gospel station in Richmond, Virginia and also doubled as the board operator for their sister station WZEZ 100.5 FM for almost 4 years. He most recently worked for another internet radio station in Washington DC, SIKA RADIO from 2005 to 2008.

DJ Ras currently hosts Sankofa Happy Hour every Tuesday and Thursday Evening between 7-9 pm ET and Weekend Warm-up on Fridays 7-10p ET. He also provides musical services for all occasions on the east coast through his Sankofa Soundz , a subsidiary of Sankofa Media Company.
