Quinzaine De La Francophonie To Open In Accra

The 2012 edition of Quinzaine de la Francophonie will on Friday, March 16 open at the Alliance Française in Accra with a performance by the Francophone Generation Band, who will thrill students and other music lovers.  

On Saturday March 17, French musician Erwann Bouvier, who moved to Burkina Faso in 2007, will showcase a dramatic blend of French and traditional African rhythms through a creative use of djembes, xylophone and tamas.

He is expected to mesmerize the crowd with a new synthesis created out of his explorations while inviting a local musician for a jamming session as he vividly portrays the power of his improvisations.

The two-week programme will continue on Monday, March 19 with an exhibition of paintings by Kassy (Cote d'Ivoire), Samuel Tete Katchan, Edem Gota, Yao Sewonou (Togo) and Salifou Oura (Burkina Faso).

It will be followed on Tuesday, March 20 with a discussion with members of the Foundation for Contemporary Art in Ghana on the topic 'Naïve Art'. Kassy, who is the director of the Naïve Art Biennial in Cote d'Ivoire, will share his experiences with his colleagues.

Courtesy of the Lebanese Embassy and the Canadian High Commission, two films, 'Beyrouth Ouest' and 'Café de Flore' will be screened on Tuesday, March 20 and Wednesday, March 21 respectively.

Ghanaian song diva Bibie Brew will continue the programme on Wednesday, March 21 with a magnificent concert in the format of the newly-designed La Pailotte Takpekpe.

Brew's performance will be preceded by three short theatre pieces titled 'A Cobbler's Dream of Becoming a Designer', 'Leaving on a Jet Plane' and 'Bachelor of Arts and Degree in Languages', enacted by artistes from the New Morning Café.

A Forum on Francophone Studies and Trade would be held on Friday, March 23. It is aimed at promoting French/Francophone studies, trade and job opportunities while a fair comprising modeling, music shows and student clubs would form part of the day's activities.

On Saturday, March 24, Ghanaian flute magician Dela Botri alongside Malian xylophone guru Keletigui Diabate and ngoni virtuoso Barou Kouyate will showcase the results of a two-week workshop held in Accra and the Malian capital Bamako. Togolese comedians, storytellers and musicians Bessan Koffi Joseph and Santy Dorim are expected to take the audience through Togolese stories proverbs. It will encompass traditions, legends and myths from several regions of Togo.

Institut Francais, Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie, CFAO Motors, Total, AGS, Frasers International, Bollore, Novotel, Allianz, LouisDreyfus, Golden Exotics, Societe Generale and Marquis Tante Marie are sponsoring Quinzaine de la Francophonie 2012.
