Shirley Frimpong Manso is once again about to hit the movie industry with the biggest bang yet.
Known for her classy pieces, the onetime arranger of the Miss Ghana beauty pageant, Shirley seems to have curved a niche for herself, barely a decade into the African movie world.
An industry many widely regard as middling, despite its long existence, Shirley has made it a personal commitment to redefine it, putting amongst the best in African movie with productions such as life and living it, scorned, perfect picture and recently, checkmate.
It is not by sheer luck that every single movie from the staples of Sparrows production is a hit. Due diligence and attention to details is what does the trick.
The Technical aspect of all her productions; Picture, sound, camera, location only goes to complement actions by her carefully selected casts.
Storylines and plot…….. just exhilarating.
Unlike many local production houses locked on the use of the same kind of cast, irrespective of the demands of the character in question, Shirley has taken the risk and gone extra mile to explore new and unpolished talents.
Chris Attoh, Lydia Forson, Naa Ashorkor, Karima Aguire, Senanu Gbedawu to mention but a few.
Suffice it to say, the likes of Majid Michel, Nadia Buari, Jackie Appiah and john Dumelo despite their overwhelming popularity and mud rush for them by Ghanaian and Nigerian producers alike, have only managed single roles per movie.
Is it not to say then that professionalism and due diligence is at its best at Sparrows production? It didn't come too much as a surprise though after I recently found out that, Shirley is actually a trained practitioner of the industry and in fact an alumni of the National Film and Television Institute
Her latest block buster, '6 hours to Christmas', a dramatic comedy introducing for the first time in Ghana, Tinsel star Damilola Adegbite, also featuring fans favorite, Chris Attoh is no different as it reflects the 24th December situations in many of our yearly lives.
THE STORY
It looks like it's going to be a typical 24th December day for suave creative director, Reggie and perhaps a slightly more memorable one as his girlfriend promises him dinner and fireworks before the stroke of midnight.
Things however take an exciting turn for him when his office colleague and the girl he's lusted after for a long time gives him a Christmas present he finds impossible to refuse.
As Reggie's mind goes into overdrive, events unfold into very hilarious and yet bizarre circumstances and it seems a day that started with the promise of Christmas may just end in heartbreak and a gun to Reggie's head.
There is no doubt, with such wonderful pieces; Shirley will definitely need to expend her awards shelves. I really don't do Ghanaian movies, but the 29th October premiere at the national theatre will definitely be early Christmas for me and all Ghanaian movie lovers.

Ghana movies have too long shots showing an entire scene and mostly characters do not move when acting but sit like a talk show.
