Accra, June 2, GNA - Sixteen young women from 12 African countries, including Ghana's Alberta Arhin, have been named as semi-finalists for NOKIA FACE OF AFRICA 2005 competition.
According to an official statement issued by MULTICHOICE Ghana in Accra on Thursday, the 16 models were preparing to fly to South Africa for their orientation session and then to Livingstone, Zambia, to compete in a week-long training camp where they would be groomed for catwalk to stardom.
Workshops would also be organised to teach them lessons in modelling success, fitness, photography, choreography and fashion.
The rest are Celeste Caetano (Angola), Kaone Kario (Botwana), Tingirt Alenayehu (Ethiopia), Yordanos Teshager Bitew (Ethiopia), Anne Wambui Maina (Kenya), Laimi Mondjila (Namibia), Opeyami Awoyemi (Nigeria), Doyin Haastrup (Nigeria) and Adeola Ariyo (Nigeria). The remaining are Palesa Hycenther Moleshiwa (South Africa), Tiyani Maluleke (South Africa), Hawa Abdlykadry (Tanzania), Aysha Salma Nassanga (Uganda), Mirriam Jaulani (Zambia) and Greatmore Chatya (Zimbabwe).
Glen Marques, M-Net Chief Executive Officer, said the semi-finalists represented model talent and his outfit was proud of their achievements.
"There is no doubt that these 16 young women illustrate the beauty and style so present in Africa today," he added. Mika Niemi, Senior Marking Manager for Nokia South Africa, said: "These are the 16 most stylish women in Africa and we believe they will benefit from the training camp in Zambia tremendously."
