Kae Sun out with 'Lion On a Leash'

Canada-based Ghana-born singer/songwriter/poet, Kae Sun's much anticipated album; 'Lion on a Leash' has finally been released through Urbnet/Fontana North. The album release was marked with a release party on October 6th at Lula Lounge, Toronto and this would be followed by a Hamilton album release Concert October 15th at The Casbah.

After years of playing shows around Canada and in preparation for a trip to Dubai and the UK, Kae Sun continues to be on a rise and the addition of a new album is expected to concretize his talent as a consummate performer.

His recent NXNE show was packed to capacity with fans who were treated to an incredible show, one that Toronto's NOW Magazine chose as one of its four Hip-hop Highlights of NXNE 2009! The magazine noted: "Sun, a Ghana-born singer, songwriter, poet and rapper, infuses his songs with soulful inflections reminiscent of Detroit's Dwele .… proof positive that there's strong talent brewing in the north."

A man of great drive and passion, Kae has poured his heart and soul into the lyrics found on his new album Lion On A Leash, which features production from Mr. Something Something (“Too Young, Too Soon”) and Miles Jones (“Free”) and (“On The Lookout”), and features appearances from Vanderpark (“Blow At The Stars”).

Born Kwaku Darko-Mensah Jr in Accra, Ghana Kae's childhood was steeped in culture and community. His earliest musical inspiration came from diverse sources: the church choir, his dad's soul records, the roots reggae blaring on the streets of Accra, traditional Ghanaian folk chants and the hip-life music on the radio. These elements fused to form the foundation of Kae Sun's unique and powerful musical style that continues to change and grow.

Kae Sun is now based in Toronto and continues to perform. He maintains his diverse style performing solo acoustic or with a band on his debut full length album “Lion on a Leash” . The album is a product of Kae Sun's experience and what he has learned on his musical journey. In addition to producing many of the tracks on this record himself, Kae was able work with an array of his favourite musicians such as Mr. Something Something, Vanderpark, Miles Jones and Voices of Savannah.
