A candidate in the chairmanship race of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dan Abodakpi, says he has the backing of the presidential aspirants for him to be the party’s chairman.

Mr. Abodakpi mentions former President John Mahama, Prof. Joshua Alabi, Alban Bagbin, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah and Sylvester Mensah as the flagbearer hopeful who have separately called on him to express their solidarity, and seek his blessing for their respective campaigns.

“Every one of them has visited me, and we have had good discussions aimed at rebuilding our party,” he said during a meeting with NDC executives in the Nadoli-Kaleo district of the Upper West region.

He was responding to a question on allegation that he preferred a particular candidate as flagbearer to lead the NDC to the 2020 elections.

Mr. Abodakpi said when elected as chairman, he would support and work with whoever emerges the flagbearer, to pursue the interests of the party.

The opposition party heads to congress this Saturday to elect national officers to lead it for the next four years. The national delegates’ congress will take place at the Fantasy Dome at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra.

According to him, the aspirants are confident that the party’s quest for effective reorganisation, unity and cohesion to win the 2020 election can best be achieved “under the chairmanship of Mr. Abodakpi.”

The aspirants he said, also believe in his restructuring strategy and vision to heal, unite and reconnect the NDC to its grassroot base as well as restoring its fortunes for election victory, and pledged their support.
