PNC launches Manifesto in Upper East

Bolgatanga, Nov. 17, GNA - The People's National Convention Party(PNC) has launched its 2016 Party's Manifesto in Bolgatanga with a call on the electorate to vote for the Party to enable it to deliver to the country from the 'economic crisis.'

The 55-page Manifesto has among its focus the 'Transformation of Agriculture' to make it more viable and attractive.

It also focuses on the Environment and Sustainable Development issues; Solving Unemployment, especially for the youth and the vulnerable; Improving Social and Public Services; and the National Economy.

Launching the Manifesto, Dr Edward Nasigre Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the Party, pointed out that one of the major problems confronting the nation was corruption.,

'Corruption is denying a lot of Ghanaians the opportunity of living a good life,' he said, and explained that the canker of corruption was not only limited to politicians, but cut across the public and the private sectors.

He gave the assurance that when given the mandate, he would institute stringent measures, especially stiffer punishment, against culprits.

'Public monies that are often siphoned by corrupt public officials could be used for the development of more viable projects and programmes to better the lives of Ghanaians,' he stated. 'I can assure you that when you give me the nod I will deal with the problem'.

'Both the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party, with their several years of ruling the country have failed to gain economic independence for Ghana. It is only the PNC that can lead the country to achieve economic independence.'

Dr Mahama said he was worried about the collapse of Government interventions, such as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and the School Feeding Programme, among others, and said the PNC Government would help revamp them and introduce new ones to better the lot of Ghanaians.

The running mate of the flag-bearer, Mr Emmanuel Anyidoho, who took the electorate through the Manifesto, explained that the Party would revamp the agricultural sector, which was the mainstay of the economy to generate employment, food security and foreign currency to help boost the economy.

On Energy, he said, the PNC Government would help address the energy crisis by ensuring that the country's international relations with the neigbouring countries, including Burkina Faso and Togo, were strengthened so as to harvest the perennial spillage of flood water into the Bui and Akosombo dams to generate energy.

A PNC Government would also build and strengthen the capacity of the security agencies to help sustain peace to attract foreign investors, he said.

The National Chairman of the Party, Mr Bernard Mornah, commended all those who stood by the Party when it had a problem with the Electoral Commission, and said the victory was a clear indication that the PNC would win the forthcoming general election.

The occasion was used to introduce all the party's Parliamentary Candidates from all the constituencies across the country.
