Owusu Ansah appointed Pan African Parliament Clerk

Accra, Oct. 29, GNA - Mr Rex Owusu Ansah, Former Clerk of Parliament has been appointed as interim Clerk of the Pan African Parliament (PAP) based in Midrand, South Africa.

A statement signed by Ambassador Gertrude Mongella, President of the Pan African Parliament, said the appointment would last for a period of three months, from October 1 to December 31, 2004. Mr Owusu Ansah's task would be to set up the Pan African Parliament with all its legislative structures.

"Your experience in working with Parliament as indicated in your curriculum vitae convinced the members of the Bureau that you are the person who can contribute immensely to the PAP at this initial stage of its inception," the statement said.

Mr Owusu Ansah, Board Chairman of the Ghana News Agency, leaves Accra on Friday to take up his new assignment.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Owusu Ansah said he considered the appointment as exciting and challenging.

"I have been in this business for years and I hope I will be able to discharge my duties to the best of my ability," he noted, saying: "This is a continental forum and my approach to the job will be continental."

The Government has meanwhile released Mr Owusu Ansah, who is also Acting Head of the Local Government Services, to take up his new appointment.
