Can I Save Selective Data from 2 GB Backup File Instead of Restore?

Windows backup files have been a provision by NTBackup utility that worked as an alternative for the original data. Working on computer always involves a risk of losing data but whenever such probabilities are there, an alternative comes handy. Just copying the same data to a different location is all that is required for ensuring its safety. Similarly, backup of the data in a compressed form to an external device serves the same purpose. Windows BKF files can store as many file types as you can backup ranging from documents, media files, database, to email files and more. However, they are only compatible with the respective application that has generated them. This segment will help you learn more about the backup files and there restrictions to certain conditions.

Backup Files and their Purpose
Backup files have been introduced as a boon into the technological world. Thanks to utilities like: NTBackup and VERITAS, Windows users were able to store their year’s long data for future use in the form of backups. Currently BKF files are no longer in use due to the incompatibility of the present time backup facility that latest versions of Windows OS feature.

Conditions That Restrict Backup Files
Backup files as discussed above are alternatives or replicas of the original data residing on one’s computer. However, as also discussed above these backups are restricted to a certain environment, i.e.:

  1. Backups are only accessible over Windows NTBackup utility, which is only available with Windows NT versions of Operating System and not later. Thus, the problem with most users was the inability of restoring backup on the latest versions of Windows after switching from the older ones despite having the backup.
  2. Backups in a healthy state could only be restored. NTBackup utility was made available for later versions of Windows. However, despite the availability it could still only restore backups in a healthy state and not corrupt.
  3. Backup were not readable. NTBackup despite all requirements fulfilled could only restore data from backups and not make it readable. The utility is only built for backup and restoration purpose of the same. Thus, one can only use for the two purpose respectively and not viewing the backup.

Therefore, user’s requirements cannot be fulfilled when the query asked is - can I save selective data from 2 GB backup file. The application provided for backup and restore can certainly not fulfill the requirement, whereas, a third party application can.

Conclusion: All the points at which NTBackup fails to serve users; a third party balances the equation. There are a number of applications built with the potential while BKF Repair proves itself as one of the best amongst all. The reason for it is that one cannot only read a backup file but also restore selective data from it despite corruption.
