Avenor NDC Group Threatens To Support CPP

21.07.2004 LISTEN
By Victor Kwawukume

A group calling itself Strategic Campaigners for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ave-Avenor Constituency in the Volta Region has threatened to campaign for the Convention People's Party (CPP) candidate for the constituency if the current NDC Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Doe Adjaho, is imposed on them again.

They have, therefore, called on the flagbearer of the CPP, Mr George Aggudey, to be ready with a candidate for the constituency in the event of Mr Adjaho “buying his way through the primaries”.

The threat was contained in a press statement signed by the spokesperson of the group, Mr Victor Kpodzi, and issued in Ho yesterday.

According to them, they were appalled by the turn of events in the constituency and the attempt by the national secretariat of the party to impose Mr Adjaho on them, adding that Mr Adjaho was no longer the choice of the people of Ave-Avenor.

The statement also accused the General Secretary of the party, Dr Josiah Aryeh, of attempts to force Mr Adjaho on them, advising that he should desist from supporting the current MP. They added that they would carry out their threat if he was imposed on them.

“We are by this statement making our stand clear that we will not throw our votes and those of the people of Ave-Avenor into a dustbin by voting for the NPP but rather project and campaign for the CPP candidate if the national secretariat imposes the incumbent MP on the people,” it warned.

The statement consequently threw a challenge to Mr Adjaho to follow the party's constitution by making himself available for a primary if he still thought that he was the choice of the people.

The statement congratulated Mr Ken Dzirasah for making himself available to the vetting committee and the South-Tongu Constituency primary.
