Members of the Kumasi-based National Democratic Congress (NDC) Motorbike Riders Association have threatened to stage a demonstration against the Regional Chairman of the party, Mr Yaw Obimpeh, for allegedly spreading false information about the group.
According to the group, the regional chairman has been claiming that the group has demanded GH¢100,000 from the party before it will continue with its activities.
They contended that the allegation was not only undermining their resolve to advance the cause of the party ahead of the December general elections but was also discrediting them as responsible party members.
They have, therefore, given the regional party boss up to Friday, April 13, 2012 to retract the allegation and apologise to the motor riders or they would stage a demonstration to demand his resignation.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic in the presence of other executive members, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the group, Mr Mohammed Ibrahim, said the group, with the membership of 83, had been doing a lot to uplift the image of the party over the years.
“Our work includes escorting party leaders to functions and using the motorbikes to create awareness of the party, among others.”
“But to date we have not received anything meaningful from the party to measure up to the work we do,” he said.
That notwithstanding, he said, they had remained committed to the cause of the NDC.
Unfortunately, the PRO said the regional chairman was not supporting their activities but was rather painting them as people without any credibility.
Efforts to contact Mr Obimpeh for his reaction proved futile.
