Immunization against measles in Brong-Ahafo Region

Sunyani, Nov 4, GNA - The quadrennial national mass measles campaign for the immunization of children aged between nine months and five years has started in all the 22 districts and municipalities in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Dr Emmanuel Tinkorang, the Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of Health Services, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the exercise would include the provision of Vitamin A supplements.

He said the four-day exercise was expected to cover a target population of 400, 081 children in the region.

The teams are fixed, mobile and camp-outs and are made up of 2,250 volunteers and 750 vaccinators or health workers.

Dr Tinkorang said the government had released 150 motorbikes to the districts to help the movement of volunteers and supervisors during the campaign.

He said Jaman North and Jaman South districts, Dormaa Municipal and Tain District had been told to sensitize communities along the Ivory Coast border to ensure that their children are vaccinated.

Dr Tinkorang appealed to all stakeholders to support the programme to ensure its success as well as support the country to achieve Millennium Development Goal Four and Five.

A tour of some of the various immunization posts in Sunyani Municipality by the Ghana News Agency showed a very good response and patronage by residents.
