Hurray! We Are 10 Years
On Monday, September 6, the Junior Graphic hits its 10th-year on the news-stand since it was re-introduced to raise the standard of learning among the youth.
Since September 2000, the newspaper had published 502 exciting editions which contained News stories, Short Stories, Tell us why, Poems, Rack your Brains, Letters, Birthday Wishes, Auntie Betty and many other columns that make Wednesdays exciting for its young readers.
Talk about history, our very first edition, which had the front page headline story “FCUBE on course” was written by Mr Ibrahim Awal, who is currently the Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited.
The editorial staff then was six: the Editor (Mrs Mavis Kitcher) who was then acting, two reporters, a photographer and two graphic designers. Ten years on, the staff strength has expanded to 10.
Some of the memorable columns published in the newspaper include Newspapers in Education (MIE), The debate which targeted those in secondary school, Time for serious talk, Computalk, Health issues, among others.
Over the period, the Junior Graphic had been the mouthpiece of deprived children; it had highlighted on the needs of schools, established Fan Clubs in schools to encourage members to read and try their hands on writing.
It had also provided informative stories within and outside the world, sponsored some students to school, won awards and above all organised funfair for hundreds of schoolchildren.
In addition, the paper had collaborated various projects with the Africa Youth Alliance (AYA) Ghana and Plan International.
Besides, the reporters had travelled the length and breadth of the 10 regions to give all schoolchildren equal opportunity, to share their difficulties and success stories with the rest of the World.
Highlighting the events for the 10th anniversary celebration, the acting Editor, Ms Victoria Odoi, said from September to November, the paper would come out with some interesting write-ups and organise a series of fun activities as well as competitive events with attractive prizes for those who will excel.
