Division One League campaigners, Guan United on Wednesday put up a spirited performance, but eventually succumbed 1-0 loss to Dansoman-based premiership side Liberty Professionals at the Carl Reindorf Park.

The lone goal, which was scored in the 73rd minute of the second half, had all the trademark of a Liberty goal, starting from a sweet counter-attack, culminating into a lovely tap-in by Liberty marksman, Kelvin Koukou Koudjo

The match served as a fine tuning for both teams ahead of their respective major assignments; Liberty are engaged in this year’s ongoing WAFU tournament where they expect to progress to the next stage on Sunday at the expense of Sunshine Stars after holding the Nigerian club to a pulsating 3-3 draw a forthnight ago.

Guan United, on their part, have their hands full with the upcoming Middle League, where they engage the likes of Aduana Stars, Universal Stars and Bechem United for a place in the country’s elite division.

Speaking after the match, coach of Guan United, Dramani Mas-ud, underscored the importance of the game asserting that it would serve as a morale booster in their build-up to the middle league.

He noted that the scoreline did not really matter as long as it achieved its purpose of helping him identify deficiencies to rectify in his team.
