Government has challenged claims by ex–President Kufuor that loans contracted under his tenure were prudently applied.
According to Deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, there still remain cobwebs by the previous government to be cleared.
Mr Kufuor in an interview with NET2, a local TV Station in Accra, chided the NDC government over allegations of corruption made against members of his government and comments that he left the country hugely indebted.
The allegations, he said, were a deliberate ploy to milk the country, insisting loans contracted under his watch were channeled into productive investments and not into buying meat, he chided.
But in an interview with Joy News' Samson Lardi Ayenini, the Deputy Information Minister said some of the investments touted by the ex-President “were not transparent and lacked accountability.”
He cited the building of the AU Village as part of the Ghana@50 Celebrations which he said was not subject to Parliamentary approval.
He also dismissed Mr. Kufuor's arguments that the country is credit worthy due to the stable economic environment he left behind.
Mr Ablakwa maintains Ghana's credit rating, the ability to apply for loans, had plummeted, adding Ghana could have done better.
He assured of an accountable governance by President John Evans Atta Mills.
