Spain is ready to host the Secretariat of the Mediterranean Union in Barcelona, visiting Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Angel Lossada said here Wednesday.
After meeting with Algerian Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci, Lossada said he hoped union members would support Barcelona's bid to be the base for the Secretariat.
At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the headquarters of the Secretariat and its operation model, Medelci said.
The Mediterranean Union is a community established on July 13 this year following a proposal by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, as a means to develop Euro-Mediterranean partnership.
The Union unites all EU members along with several non-EU countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea.
