CHARLES AGBONTOR, the President's nominee for the post of District Chief Executive for Jasikan in the Volta Region, has been confirmed and sworn into office at a ceremony at Jasikan last week.
His nomination and subsequent confirmation came after Solomon Donkor, the immediate past DCE, had left post for another appointment as a Deputy Director in-charge of the National School Feeding Programme.
He had the endorsement of 20 out of the 29 assembly members present.
A District Magistrate, Janet Awo Bakudie, who swore him in, asked the new DCE to exhibit high level of dedication and serve the district in an open and transparent manner, while bearing in mind that service to the people would ultimately bring honour to his office.
She pointed out that the DCE's nomination by the President was a manifestation of the confidence reposed in him by virtue of some unique qualities and that he could only justify such confidence by living up to expectation.
Madam Bakudie noted that Solomon Donkor had posed a great challenge to the new DCE by his performance, adding that for anyone to be able to break the record, the person must perform exceptionally well.
Rashid Bawah, Ghana's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, said the nomination and subsequent confirmation of the new DCE could not have been a mistake, since Agbontor possesses the necessary qualities to effectively run the district.
He urged him to allow his humility, intelligence and general sense of duty to guide him in office as the head of administration of the district.
The Volta Regional Minister, Kofi Dzamesi, asked Mr. Agbontor to keep open his administration to facilitate partnership between him and those in the area toward enhancing his work.
DCE Agbontor, on his part, expressed appreciation to the President and the assembly for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to live up to expectation.
He however, called for unity and collaboration from the people, particularly traditional leaders to effectively address the challenges confronting the area.
