The Council of State at its inaugural sitting in Accra has confirmed the appointment of the Chief of Defence Staff and other Service Commanders of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Briefing journalists in Accra, deputy government spokesman Kwabena Adjepong said, the Council approved Major-General Seth Obeng as Chief of the Defence Staff, General Headquarters.
The others were Brigadier Francis Kobina Mensah Yawson, Chief of Staff, General Headquarters, Brigadier George Aryiku, General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, Kumasi and Brigadier Joseph Boateng Danquah General Officer Commanding Southern Command Accra.
The rest were Brigadier Cletus Naa Boanubah Yaache, Army Commander, Army Headquarters, Air Commodore Edward Apau Mantey, Chief of Air Staff, Air Force Headquarters and Rear Admiral John Kodzo Gbenah, Chief of Naval Staff, Naval Headquarters.
The President appointed the officers into acting capacities while the Council was being constituted. Mr Adjepong said the Council of State also approved 13 ambassadors-designate and their names and the specific countries they have been assigned to would be announced in due course. He said Professor Alex Kwapong, former vice-chancellor of the University of Ghana and UN University, was unanimously elected the chairman of the Council.
