Funny things are taking place in the NPP presidential primaries.

A senior editor told me on Tuesday night that there are major cracks in the ruling party.
I said to myself: What do you expect with all these 19 presidential aspirants?
Then he added something significant: They should all thank Rawlings.

Thank Rawlings?

Yes, he said. Rawlings, he explained, is still much of a bogey to many people and so NDC would remain unattractive to core NPP supporters, core CPP supporters and many floating voters…

I got his point, but taking the cracks issue a little farther, I told him that much of the damage being done – the cracks – did not emanate from the NDC but NPP sources. The presidential aspirants are mean to the competition, even leaking stuff about one another to the NDC media!

It is not enough to report or give fair comment but where possible concoct a story to score a point and put the competition down.

It is all part of “psy-ops” I am told, but I also know that things that disturb the psyche can also lead to long lasting antipathies... We shall see…
