30.03.2007 LISTEN

A barber, 25, is to stand trial at the Swedru Circuit Court for allegedly defiling ten children aged between nine and twelve.

Akwasi Amofa, allegedly an usher and a prayer warrior of the Kasoa branch of the Blessed Chapel International, has pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement and will be arraigned in court on Tuesday, April 3.

Amofa was on Wednesday arraigned before an Awutu Bereku magistrate court which committed him for trial at the circuit court.

Chief Inspector Helena Aidoo, prosecuting, told the magistrate court, that the children and their families normally visited Amofa’s barbering saloon to have haircuts and he took advantage of his relationship with them and allegedly defiled the children one after the other, many times, threatening to kill them if they disclosed their ordeal to anyone.

According to the prosecution, Amofa was arrested after some of the parents made complaints to the Kasoa Police when they discovered what was happening.

The prosecutor said a fresh case of defilement had been registered against Amofa and pleaded that Amofa should be committed to a higher court for trial.
