Beverage Investment Ghana Limited, local producers of Pepsi Cola, is to collaborate with local plastic recycling companies to recycle the virgin food grade plastic used for its AquaSplash water bottles into other plastic products.

This is in response to a suggestion by the Vice-President, Alhaji Mahama, when he launched AquaSplash, the company’s brand of filtered water, on February 16.

The company accepted the suggestion and decided to collaborate in the project because of the huge patronage AquaSplash received during the just-ended 11th Ghana International Trade Fair, dubbed Jubilee Fair.

Charles Nimako, Managing Director of Beverage Investment Ghana, said, 'we needed large consumption levels to make recycling economically viable. Fortunately, public preference for AquaSplash at the Trade Fair clearly indicated we can easily reach consumption levels to make the recycling attractive.'

He said that recycling is the way forward all over the world, and it will not only create employment but also make AquaSplash more environmentally friendly.

Mr Nimako attributed the growing consumer preference for its product to the extensive research carried out by the company to ensure that AquaSplash was well-refined and excellently purified using carbon filtration, micron filtration, reverse osmosis and ozonation.
