THE Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District mutual Health Insurance Scheme has organised a day’s capacity building workshop for 145 members of Community Health Insurance Committees (CHIC) in the eight urban areas of the district.

It was aimed, among other things, at equipping the participants with more knowledge to educate the people on the need to register with the scheme for it to achieve its target of registering 60 per cent of the people in the area by December.

The Scheme Manager, Eric Owusu Appiah, addressing the participants, said that at present about 35 per cent of the people in the area had registered with the scheme.

The participants were taken through topics including basic principles of health insurance, the role of CHIC members in the communities, equity and risk equalisation.

He appealed to the members to work hard and educate the people to register with the scheme to enable them to access free medical care.

He also appealed to the people in the area not to attach any political and ethnic sentiment to the insurance scheme, adding that the scheme is meant for all Ghanaians, irrespective of their political affiliations.
