Government has stepped up efforts to improve safety on the country's inland waterways with the commissioning of 200 Safety Guards.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Transport and the Ghana Maritime Authority, is aimed at reducing fatalities and improving safety standards on inland water transport routes across the country.

Officials say the deployment forms part of broader measures to strengthen regulation, enhance monitoring, and promote safer transportation on Ghana's water bodies.

The move is expected to improve public confidence and reduce accidents on inland waterways.
