Over 150 workers of CONTRACTA UK Limited, the contractor working on the Kejetia Phase II Market Project in Kumasi, have been laid off following operational challenges linked to funding constraints.

The company is reportedly planning to shut down its Kumasi office due to the unavailability of funds needed to complete the project.

In response, the Combined Kumasi Central Market Traders Union has petitioned the company, urging it to reconsider the decision amid concerns over the future of the market project and livelihoods of affected workers.

The development raises fresh concerns about the progress and financing of one of Kumasi's major infrastructure projects.
