The Acting Minister for Environment and Science, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has warned that the continuous destruction of mangroves, pollution of rivers and wetlands, and improper waste disposal are posing serious threats to aquatic life, community livelihoods, and Ghana's environmental future.
Speaking at the commemoration of World Oceans Day in the Ellembelle District, where the Amazule Wetlands have been designated as a Ramsar site, he stressed the urgent need for national reflection on environmental degradation.
He noted that recent widespread flooding across parts of the country highlights the consequences of environmental abuse and calls for stronger action to protect natural ecosystems.
The Minister urged stakeholders and citizens to prioritise environmental conservation to safeguard water bodies and ensure long-term sustainability.
