Frederick Ato Armah has warned that poor urban planning, weak enforcement of regulations, and inadequate climate adaptation measures are worsening extreme urban heat and flooding across Ghana's cities.
Speaking at a stakeholder engagement in Accra, the University of Cape Coast professor called for urgent public education on urban planning regulations, greater decentralisation, and increased financial support for local authorities to help address the growing climate threat and build more resilient communities.
The warning comes as many urban areas continue to grapple with recurring floods, rising temperatures, and increasing pressure on infrastructure.
