The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Abdul-Fatawu Alhassan, has welcomed President John Dramani Mahama's directive barring public officials from accepting awards from private organisations without prior approval.

His comments follow public criticism surrounding the Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Honours after allegations emerged that some recipients were required to make payments before receiving awards. Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV, Alhassan described the President's intervention as timely, arguing that some public officials use state resources to finance participation in such award schemes.

He says the directive will help promote accountability, protect public funds, and preserve the integrity of public office.
