Speaking at a stakeholders' dialogue in Accra, the Minister disclosed that the region's 25 Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies (MMAs) currently generate about 4,400 tonnes of waste daily, equivalent to approximately 1.6 million tonnes annually. He warned that waste generation is projected to exceed 5,100 tonnes per day by 2036, stressing that final waste disposal remains one of the most significant gaps in the region's sanitation infrastructure. The remarks highlight the urgent need for long-term investment in waste treatment, recycling, and disposal systems to support sustainable urban development and environmental protection.
