Brazilian fans gear up for their World Cup trip as football fever grips Rio
A Brazilian family in Rio de Janeiro is preparing to follow the national team across three host nations — the United States, Canada and Mexico — for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Brazil, the only country to have competed in every tournament since 1930 and the most decorated nation with five titles, draws fans for whom attending the World Cup is a multigenerational tradition. Romulo Duarte, attending his fourth tournament in person, is bringing his children despite the cost, which he describes as the highest ever. His supporters' group, the Green and Yellow Movement, has grown to more than 200,000 members worldwide since its founding ahead of South Africa 2010.
Al Jazeera's Monica Yanakiew reports from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
