NPP Plans Massive Demonstration After Petitioning Diplomatic Community on 'Human Rights Abuse'

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has petitioned the diplomatic community and international partners to closely monitor what it describes as a deteriorating human rights and democratic governance situation in Ghana.
The party claims that arbitrary arrests and prosecutions of citizens are unhealthy for Ghana's democracy, and says the situation has become increasingly concerning.
The National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Salam Mustapha, says the party leadership and parliamentary leadership are treating the matter with urgency, describing it as “one too many” incidents involving arrests.
He added that the party has taken steps to formally alert the international community, including the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, the Moroccan High Commissioner to Ghana, who assured them the petition would be circulated among diplomatic partners.
According to him, this is only the first step, as the party plans a major demonstration and intends to use all constitutional means available to push its concerns.
