Acting Rent Commissioner, Frederick Opoku, has criticised the high cost of private hostel accommodation around the University of Ghana, describing some of the charges as exploitative and unjustified.

He specifically raised concerns about Viking Hostel, noting that some facilities charge students as much as GHS 10,859 per year for shared rooms, with even higher fees for more private or air-conditioned options.

He is calling for greater fairness and regulation in student housing pricing to ensure affordability for university students amid rising accommodation costs.
