Badu Kobi Should Cut His Fake Post-Rawlings Bravado

Badu Kob

Now, I don’t know where this Prophet Emmanuel Badu-Kobi guy has been hiding all these years, but it may probably interest him to know that in most advanced democracies around the world, including the United States of America, where yours truly has been living for nearly 35 years now, most election results are called or announced in the middle of the night (See “Only Thieves Declare Election Results at Night – Prophet Kobi Jabs NPP” Ghanaweb.com 1/2/19). Besides, if the leader and founder of the Glorious Wave Chapel International and former understudy of Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah would be honest with himself and his slavishly captive congregants, he would realize that absolutely no key operative of the then-main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) put a gun to the head of the Mahama and National Democratic Congress’-appointed Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei, the extant Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), and forced the latter to call the election results in favor of then-Candidate Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Then also, “Prophet” Badu-Kobi needs to explain to the members of his own congregation and the nation at large, precisely why no group of well-meaning Ghanaian citizens, including the members of his own congregation, did not take to the streets to massively protest the results of the elections that he claims to have been rigged in favor of the now-President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The fact of the matter, though he may have an extremely difficult time appreciating this, is that Election 2016 may very well have been the cleanest election ever to have been conducted in the country’s Fourth Republic. Indeed, it is even on record that the world-renowned and immortalized former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Kofi Annan, had personally and authoritatively prevailed on the then presidential incumbent, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, to honorably concede defeat because adamantly holding out and hoping against hope that Mrs. Charlotte Osei, his scandalously handpicked Electoral Commissioner, was, somehow, going to overturn the already confirmed election results in his favor amounted to nothing short of living in a fool’s paradise.

You see, Mr. Badu-Kobi may not be aware of this, but he could actually be challenged in court to provide forensically sustainable evidence to prove that he is not deliberately hell-bent on defaming his prime political opponents in favor of his widely alleged NDC paymasters and patrons. And he could very well be restrained by a court order and barred from making the sort of psychologically unbalanced pronouncements that he has been making in recent years. I also don’t know that rabidly insulting the intelligence and integrity of Ghanaian voters does the leader of the Glorious Wave Chapel International any good. It actually makes him a laughing stock. “Prophet” Kobi also has the belated privilege of retrospective or “post-revolution” bravado. I mean, why has he waited until Chairman Jerry John Rawlings was long out of power before presuming to impugn the credibility and authenticity of his presidency? Badu-Kobi’s is clearly the veritable hallmark of a coward feigning bravery after all the men have left town and only gossip-prone octogenarian women are left in the market square.

I have said this before and do hereby repeat the same, that it is about time clerical-collar-wearing soap-box politicians like “Prophet” Badu-Kobi and his ilk got fully taxed like the rest of the members of Ghana’s business community by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and got certified as faux-Christian hustlers. For, people like Mr. Badu-Kobi behave more like con-artists preying on their weak-minded followers than the sort of altruistic missionary teacher-catechists and sacrificial pastors and evangelists of mainline Christian denominations like the Presbyterians, Methodists, Anglicans and the Roman Catholic prelates I grew up envisaging as my role models. Of course, they were not perfect, but they were closest to the ideal progressive humans that any society would give their all to acquire or have among its leadership. I mean, which well-meaning and well-raised Ghanaian citizen, other than the hopelessly desperate, would want to have shady and foulmouthed characters like “Prophet” Badu-Kobi as their role model?
