Speech Delivered By Prosper Dzitse On The Occasion Of The Launching Of The Book, 'Become A Better Leader And The Best In Your Chosen Field'

Mr. Chairman, the Guest Speaker, Invited Guests, Fellow Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen, I am humbled by your presence on this day just to make sure this program becomes a success.

Mr. Chairman, I will first of all give thanks to the Almighty God for making us see this very day, it will be one of the nostalgic moments in the life of a young author who has just began a journey that has many miles to travel, it will also be one of the nostalgic moments because I believe this is one of such occasions where I am seeing physically for the first time many friends that I have made through the social media, and again, it will be nostalgic because this is one of such few occasions where I am seeing my family and friends strongly behind me.

And most especially a moment where one of the many promises I made to my late parents is being fulfilled. It is indeed a dream come true for many family members, friends and the numerous audience that I speak to across the country who have always urged me on to put together my lofty ideas. It is most especially because many of those who have tried to doubt my life's golden assignment have now believed that nothing indeed is impossible.

Mr. Chairman, the launching of a book, can be linked to the naming ceremony of a new born baby, perhaps the only clear difference is that in a naming ceremony, the name of the child is not mostly known to the general public before it is officially introduced but in a book launching, the name, thus the title is widely known even though not all may be able to keep that in mind before the D Day.

Mr. Chairman today is not the day for speeches but it is just a matter of necessity to have someone to give us a gist about this book and that is what I intend to do quickly. This is the gathering of leaders and all those who are out there are leaders, they are either leading themselves, others or both, and the most important one is to do both.

This book is a 12 Chapter book, it was originally a 25 chapter thoughts, comprising of life principles and leadership for that matter that I have often spoken about to my audience on my day-to-day leadership teachings and learning. It is important to recognize that we are all learners on this journey call life. So what this book cannot do is to provide all the solutions of life. If there is someone here who thinks that he or she has seen it all in as far as leadership is concerned then this book is not a good material for him or her, that person should probably be looking at how to hide all alone, and spend the rest of the life in solitude.

If there is anyone here or out there who thinks that leadership is about putting words together and releasing them to confuse the people they claim to be leading, so that they can receive applause even though the people do not understand what they are saying, then this book will be of the greatest of disappointment to such a person, because it is in a straight forward language that does not contain many jargons. This means we may not need dictionaries besides us while reading it. It is a direct conversation between the author and the reader.

Mr. Chairman, I believe this is a good material for us all especially in an era where everything is now about politics. We leave in an era whereby every issue is subjected to political lens, sometimes I ask myself, 'is that all there's to life?' but while we ask the questions we must always not forget to answer them because we are the solutions we seek.

Mr. Chairman, in the book, 'Become a Better Leader and the Best in Your Chosen Field', everything has been discussed based on the various factors on which man must thrive, what factors am I talking about here? I am talking about the factors of economics, environmental, political, and most especially social.

We are in an era whereby many things are failing us. Have we ever give the following a thought?

Why is it that we are having more educational institutions today than we have had in the past and yet many educational problems are begging for solution? Why is it that we have more leaders today than before, some self appointed, others elected and yet the masses keep on complaining of unsatisfactory results? Why is it that many religious establishments are being put up and yet evil persists? Why is it that many professionals are being produced than before and yet many of our institutions are failing to deliver as expected? I know someone will say today is not yesterday so we must not compare them, but we must also not forget that the resources we have today, yesterday, we were not having.

In all the above what must leadership do?
In all the above what we lost is a focused, result-oriented, purpose-driven and quality leadership. The essence of leadership in my own words is to help people find solutions to the challenges of life, for that matter if we need to be guided by leaders, these leaders must be people who have the right information and not necessarily the right experience because experience comes by doing or by being there for some time, and we all have the first time in our lives to do everything that we do.

Mr. Chairman our problem has always been that we talk much and do less, leaders from both students level to national level are failing the system. The continuum of challenges facing our leadership institutions are just too numerous, and I know someone may ask why is he concerned soo much about these issues? I am soo much concern about these issues because it is the masses that suffer when leaders renege on their mandate. And you ask why I am concern about the masses? I am concerned about the masses because they build the society, they pay the taxes, and we must protect them.

Mr. Chairman, in this book, I have tried to be very practical enough in order to reduce it from much talk to more action, the examples in this book are things that we can all do if only we believe a leader's mandate is to render a service that must lessen the burden of the people.

Mr. Chairman, with all the above challenges, I still have good news for all of us. The good news is that there is a new wave of change passing through Africa. In all my travels across this country as a student and as a leader, I have met many people who are not just eager to talk but also to put their words into action. I have many friends, and among my over 3000 face book friends and families, the over 5000 youth I meet every year, I can confidently say things are changing for the better even though not as rapidly as we may all expect. Many a friend of mine both home and abroad some of which are here today, have decided to find solutions to the problems confronting them and their societies in their own corners without necessarily looking up to government as we use to think and do.

I am happy to be a Ghanaian youth, and I am happy to be an African youth. If there has been any moment of my life that I have been more than proud to be an African, this is the moment. The solutions lie within us, and that is what as leaders we must never forget, and as I said, some people have already started the race, let those who are sleeping for soo long a time sleep no more, let those who are doing much talk without giving practical meaning to it, rise up, let those who are complaining without giving us the way forward, without providing the needed direction, do all of us a favor by zooming into action of helping us with the solutions of the problems they talk about.

It is my hope that every one of us here will get a copy or copies of this book, even if not today, because it will help all of us build together the kind of leadership we want to see in Africa and the world. It contains great leadership quotes, summary and many other resources that can help us improve tremendously in our chosen field. Let us use it to guide ourselves continuously on the journey of leadership. If you are a parent whose child is yet to enter any institution where he or she must specialize in a particular field, this is the first material I recommend as a gift to such a child.

Mr. Chairman, having said all the above, let me use this opportunity to thank everyone on my own behalf for making it to this event. Always remember that, you are those who make the needed difference in the world and we are the solutions we seek.

God bless you.
