HE WAS A GOOD PANAFRICANIST BUT A BAD GHANAIAN. DESPITE REALIZING THAT HIS DREAM OF A UNITED STATES OF AFRICA WAS NOT ACHIEVABLE AFTER THE FORMATION OF THE OAU HE STILL DEVELOPED AFRICA. HE WAS A POWER DRUNK, EXHAUTED ALL HIS IDEAS AND WAS VERY CONFUSED DURING HIS LAST YEARS. HE DID HIS BEST THOUGHT KILLED HIS ADVICERS AND OPONENTS. HE IS THE BEGINER OF MOST OF OUR PROBLEMS.

Hey Kwaku,
I think you got it wrong. Nkrumah is one of the great men Ghana has ever had. He is respected everywhere in the World; not only Ghana and Africa.
He did a lot for Ghana, not only Africa.
Think about the educational system he put in place. Foreseeing that the World will soon be a technological world, he thought it wise to build uni. of science dand technology.
He was excellent in human resource ddevelopment. All the lecturers and the learned people we have in Ghana benefited from Nkrumah's scholarship both internal and international.
Knowing the importance of energy in a country's development, he build Akosombo dam/Volta lake to generate electricity for domestic and industrial use. In addition, he built a modern industrial city and a habour to facilitate trade and commerce-Tema.
What about Tema motorway, the silos all over the country, the meat factory in the north, shoe factory in Kumasi, the plantation farms, Bogoso tire factory, the unfinished Bui dam due to the 66 coup? He did all these for Ghana. He helped other African countries just to bring unity among Africans. He had a foresight and Ghanaian did not understand him at that time because he was far ahead. He thought of AU before Europe could start EU. The Western world new he was a threat to them because if Africa unite we will exchange our goods and services among ourselves to ensure our development without the West dictating the pace of our development. No wonder they collaborated with the greedy Ghanaians to overthrow him. The 66 coup is the beginning of the problems of Ghana not Nkrumah. The coup paved way for subsequent coups. It halted the development plans of Nkrumah. Even though Nkrumah was not allowed to accomplish his development plan for Ghana, what he accomplished within the short term period is what Ghana is still enjoying.

I think he did well to fight for what we could not come out completely. He wanted Africa to come under one umbrella with him as president. He was really a great man
His mistake was that he did not consider the capabilities of the African ,'destruction'.
If Nkrumah had left Ghana to the whites for now, Ghana would have been better than we see today. He really caused us a mess. Now that a holiday has been instituted to commemorate his centenary celebration, i ask Ghanaians to again see the laziness we have become post independence. To sleep instead of working and yet still hope socio economic development to come about.
